Window Fabric Shades
The window treatments of today represent, in a word, simplicity. This does not mean that window shades must be plain looking, but today’s window fabric shades suggest a much cleaner and crisper approach for your windows. It is easy to give your windows a fresh look because you have a wide array of shades and fabrics to choose from.
Fabric has come to be a very valuable material since its flexibility is caused by cross weaving the threads. Fabric window shades can be manufactured to just about any specification. One of the advantages of having fabric window shades is that the material can be manufactured to meet you exact measurements and then sewn or they can even be threaded to size. On the other hand, plastic based products are usually limited to standard sizes. Fabric based vertical blinds, which are another type of fabric window shade, seem to be perfect for those different windows such as windows that open with catches or for sliding glass windows. That is another distinct advantage of having fabric window shades. A great benefit for you housewives is that there is very little maintenance involved with these window coverings. If you happen to have curtains or drapes covering your windows, you know that they either have to be taken down to be washed and pressed and re-hung or must be taken to be dry cleaned. That is a real bother!
The main disadvantage of fabric window shades is that they seem to accumulate more dust than all of the other different kinds of window shades. This problem may be accentuated if you are the type of person who loves to keep you windows open. If you home happens to be in a locality where you receive a lot of automobile pollution, then window fabric shades may cause a problem.
Another major disadvantage of having fabric window shades is that because they are fairly light weight, they do not do well with high speed winds. This could pose a problem if you live in a very windy area.
The last major disadvantage is that fabric window shades are not as energy efficient as some of the other window coverings that are available. In today’s society with the price of oil skyrocketing, this may be a real problem if you heat your home with oil.
The average price of fabric window shades may vary depending upon the type of material that you select. Here are a few examples for you to consider. Roman fabric window shades will run between $100 and $250. Cellular fabric window shades will run between $50 to $275 depending on the fabric and pleat size. Roller fabric window shades seemed to be the least expensive coming in at prices between $35 and $115.
It seems that fabric window shades are becoming increasingly popular due to their versatility. No matter what your budget may be, it seems that there will be definitely something for your windows.
